【 摘 要 】
This study estimates marginal increasein malnutrition for children ages 1-3 years from exposure toan extreme shock in the West African Sahel. The study usesknowledge of a child's birth and high resolutionspatial and temporal distribution of shocks, calculated fromthe Normalized Difference Vegetation Index andsatellite-based measures of rainfall and temperature to linka child to the shock experienced in-utero. The study findsthat while around 20 percent of the children in the sampleare stunted or underweight, more than 30 percent of thechildren in the sample are highly vulnerable to either formof malnutrition.
