The objectives of the Coastal WetlandsManagement Project for Ghana (1993-99) were to maintain theecological integrity of five key coastal wetland areas byinvolving the people who derive their livelihood from theseecosystems in the planning and implementation of managementprograms; to identify and monitor the common resources thatbenefit the human and bird populations in the wetlands, andmanage them without unduly restricting the options of peopleto derive benefit from the resources. It would also developcapabilities at government and community level forimplementing the program. This project was implemented withthe assistance of a Global Environmental Trust Fund grant.
