【 摘 要 】

Using matched pair methods,Lopez-Acevedo reevaluates the labor market performance ofgraduates of Mexico's Colegio Nacional de EducacionProfesional Ttnica (CONALEP), the country's largesttechnical education system. She also assesses the impact ofinnovations introduced by CONALEP in 1991. The analysisshows that individuals in the control group find jobs fasterthan CONALEP graduates do, but a larger share of CONALEPgraduates work in an occupation consistent with their fieldof specialization or training. CONALEP graduates earn 20-28percent more than the control group. And employers investmore in training CONALEP graduates than they do in trainingindividuals in the control group. The author shows that theinnovations introduced by CONALEP increase graduates'probability of finding a job and shorten their job search. Acost-benefit analysis appears to show that CONALEP is aneffective training system.
