【 摘 要 】
Since 1989, environmental authorities ofthe Republic of Korea have published on a monthly basis alist of enterprises violating the country'senvironmental rules and regulations. This may be the longestenvironmental public disclosure program currently inexistence. Over the period 1993-2001 in excess of 7,000violations have been recorded in these monthly violationlists, involving more than 3,400 different companies. Inthis paper, the authors provide a comprehensive descriptiveanalysis of this dataset. Results suggest that the newsmedia have given an important, though perhaps decliningcoverage, to the violation lists, with a focus on publiclytraded companies, failures to operate pollution abatementequipment, and prosecutions.
