【 摘 要 】
Education is a major instrument foreconomic growth and poverty reduction. Rapid changes intechnology, globalization and economic reforms are creatingdramatic shifts in the structure of economies and labormarkets throughout the world. The challenges of the futurelie with confronting traditional limitations within arapidly changing environment. This transformation hasalready occurred in advanced economies and increasingly soin Latin America. Colombia's great challenge is how tobecome an active member of this new global society, theinformation and knowledge society. These changes imply thatthe role of tertiary education must also shift. Whiletertiary education's traditional role has been to trainstudents for employment through the transmission ofknowledge and by providing basic research, it must add tothese tasks the training of adaptable workers and supportingthe continued expansion of knowledge. An enhanced tertiaryeducation sub-sector enabled to respond to society'sincreasing needs for high quality human capital must counton dynamic capacity for monitoring and evaluation, anddisseminate to all stakeholders information about tertiaryeducation its opportunities and costs, and includeinformation about labor market perspectives; it must caterfor students from all groups of the society by promotinggreater equity in access to university and technicaltertiary education and training.【 预 览 】
