Early in 2000, Ecuador, confronted witha serious economic crisis, adopted the US dollar as itsnational currency, This book examines the conditions thatled to this action, describing the repeated cycles of crisisand failed stabilization that fatally undermined confidencein the Ecuadorian sucre. The book then analyzesdollarization's initial results and its effects oninflation, growth, poverty, inequality, marginalization,gender, and the Ecuadoran family. It also puts the Ecuadoranexperience with dollarization in an international perspective.
