【 摘 要 】
Under-nutrition, and micronutrientdeficiencies are critical issues for Eastern Europe andCentral Asia. Failure to target programs to address theimpact of malnutrition, has led to high rates ofunder-nutrition, and iron and iodine deficiencies. Thisreport highlights the life-threatening nutrition problemsconfronting people in the region, and suggests strategiesfor change: a) improving infant feeding, particularly inCentral Asia, to reduce unacceptably high rates ofunder-nutrition in young children; b) increasing consumptionof iodized salt, to reduce compromised intelligence levels;and, c) developing programs to reduce iron deficiency anemiain women, and young children. Policymakers, and healthcareproviders must develop, and deliver consistent, persuasivemessages. This book aims to help raise awareness ofnutrition problems in the region, and, suggests solutionsfor reducing malnutrition.
