【 摘 要 】
By causing a sizeable reduction inemployment 6 percent and labor supply 19 percent, chronicdiseases are responsible for a major efficiency loss in theEgyptian economy. Furthermore the impact of chronic diseaseson the labor market is not uniformly distributed. The olderand the less educated suffer a larger drop in theprobability of being employed and in their supply of workinghours. The authors estimate the reduced form equations ofindividual employment status, labor supply and the usualwage equation. They control for unobserved ability andindividual preferences by means of a within-siblingsestimator. Measurement errors in our self-reported healthvariable have been accounted for.
