【 摘 要 】
The aim of this volume is to drawinternational attention to the key role that education canplay in both preventing conflict and in reconstructingpost-conflict societies. The author also hopes to alertdeveloping countries and donors alike to the devastatingconsequences of conflict on a country's educationsystems and outcomes, as well to emphasize the importance ofmaximizing the opportunities to reform education systemspresented by a reconstruction setting, adopting a long-termdevelopment perspective, and emphasizing equity and qualityin the delivery of education services. Every educationsystem has the potential to exacerbate the conditions thatcontribute to violent conflict. Based on this notion, theauthor argues that education warrants high priority in bothhumanitarian response and post-conflict reconstruction. Thecentral message of this book is that education plays keyrole in both conflict prevention and in the reconstructionof post-conflict societies. It highlights significantfindings on education and post-conflict reconstruction drawnfrom thorough research and literature review, a survey anddatabase of key indicators for 52 conflict-affectedcountries, and a review of 12 country studies.
