This report synthesizes the experienceof micro hydro developments in Sri Lanka, Peru, Nepal,Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. It attempts to draw out the BestPractice from this experience. Micro hydro plants aredefined as having a capacity of between 10 kW and 200 kW.The report provides a rigorous comparative microeconomicanalysis of the cost and financial returns of a sample ofplants across the five countries. It draws out themacroeconomic, financial, and other institutionalarrangements that appear important to the scaling-up ofmicro hydro investments. Summaries of the microeconomicanalysis of the case studies of individual micro hyro plantsare included in the annex to this synthesis report. Thelessons for "Best Practice" are summarized inSection 5.
