【 摘 要 】
The relationship between the intensityof competition in an economy and its long-run growth is anopen question in economics. Theoretically, there is noclear-cut answer. Empirical evidence exists, however, thatin some sectors more competition leads to more innovation, and accelerates productivity growth. To complement thosefindings, and capture economy-wide effects, the authorsconduct a cross-country study. They examine the impact ongrowth of various measures having to do with intensity ofdomestic competition - beyond the effects of tradeliberalization. Their results indicate a strong correlationbetween long-run growth, and effective enforcement ofantitrust, and competition policy.
