【 摘 要 】

Buying, selling and mortgaging farmlandare still rare in Eastern and Central Europe. Notsurprisingly, given the level of risk in many of thesecountries, short-term transactions, especially leasing, aremore common. These short-term transactions do almost as wellas land sales in allocating resources. Making them moresecure by improving simple registration and enforcementsystems and increasing public access to information on whatis for rent and at what price would do much help revive thefarm sector.
