【 摘 要 】
This sourcebook aims to support effortsby countries to strengthen the role of the education sectorin the prevention of HIV/AIDS. It was developed in responseto numerous requests for a simple forum to help countriesshare their practical experiences of designing andimplementing programs that are targeted at school-agechildren. The sourcebook seeks to fulfill this role byproviding concise summaries of programs, using a standardformat that highlights the main elements of the programs andmakes it easier to compare the programs with each other. Allthe programs are summarized in section two, which allowsthose seeking advice on program design to browse through thevarious options and identify those that might reward furtherstudy. The full program reports for each country are givenin section three. Each program report follows the sameformat, so the reader can more easily find those aspects ofthe program that are of specific interest. The consistentdesign also allows for ease of comparison between programs. There are four main sections within each full programreport. Part A gives an overview of the program, describingthe rationale, the aims and objectives, the target audience, the components, and the main approaches. Part B describesthe process from the initial needs assessment, through thedevelopment of materials and training, to the practicaldetails of implementation. There is an attempt made toestimate unit costs, but these should be seen only asindicative, because the number of beneficiaries is oftenuncertain and because costs in newly implemented programsmay be artificially high. Part C provides an assessment andcomprises lessons learned. This section begins with commentsfrom implementers on the challenges faced and the lessonslearned, followed in a few cases by a description of anyformal evaluation of the program. The final part exploresthe extent to which the program complies with a set ofbenchmarks that, on the basis of expert opinion, contributeto an effective program. Part D gives details of theorganizations involved with the program, including theircontact information. It lists all the materials that areavailable to the reader, along with an order code number.
