【 摘 要 】
South Asia's HIV epidemic is highlyheterogeneous. As a result, informed, prioritized, andeffective responses necessitate an understanding of theepidemic diversity between and within countries. Furtherspread of HIV in South Asia is preventable. The future sizeof South Asia's epidemic will depend on an effectivetwo-pronged approach: firstly, on the scope andeffectiveness of HIV prevention programs for sex workers andtheir clients, injecting drug users and their sexualpartners, and men having sex with men and their other sexualpartners; and secondly, on the effectiveness of efforts toaddress the underlying socio-economic determinants of theepidemic, and to reduce stigma and discrimination towardspeople engaging in high risk behaviors, often marginalizedin society, as well as people living with HIV and AIDS.
