The objective of this Policy Note is toprovide an assessment of available options for financinghealth care in the Solomon Islands. In doing so, theanalysis will factor in the country-specific economic,social and political factors, which will ultimatelyinfluence the performance of the health financingmechanisms. The Note was motivated by the Solomon IslandsGovernment s (SIG) interest in knowing whether financingoptions other than general revenue financing would befeasible and sustainable in the context of the SolomonIslands. In particular, SIG wished to consider whetherSocial Health Insurance presents a better alternative toGeneral Revenue financing. The Note therefore seeks toprovide the evidence and information needed to guide theSolomon Islands Government (SIG) in making decisions aboutdifferent health financing options.
