【 摘 要 】
This paper studies the growth effects ofexternalities associated with intergenerational healthtransmission, health persistence, and women'soccupational constraints-- with particular emphasis on therole of access to infrastructure. The first part provides areview of the evidence on these issues. The second and thirdparts present an overlapping generations model of endogenousgrowth that captures these interactions, and characterizeits properties. The model is then used to perform severalgender-based or gender-related experiments -- a reduction inthe cost of child rearing, improved wage equality in themarket place, and better access to infrastructure. The lastpart draws together the implications of the analysis forpromoting the role of women in growth strategies.
