【 摘 要 】
During a financial crisis, creditprovision by international banks may be stymied by threedistinct, but related, channels: changes in lendingstandards as a result of increased economic uncertainty, changes in funding availability from interbank liquiditymarkets, and changes in solvency due to effects on bankbalance sheets. This paper illuminates the manner by whicheach of these channels independently operated to affectdeveloped-country bank lending in developing countriesduring the global financial crisis of 2007/09. It quantifieshow changes in banks' uncertainty about the value oftheir asset holdings, access to interbank liquidity, andinternal balance sheet considerations altered their supplyof credit in the run-up, during, and in the immediateaftermath of the financial crisis, both in terms of theirrelative magnitudes, as well as the sensitivity of thesemagnitudes to the crisis.
