【 摘 要 】
The aim of this paper is to provide anupdated survey of the "state of the art" inentrepreneurial studies with a particular focus ondeveloping countries (DCs). In particular, the concept of"entrepreneurship" is critically discussed, followed by a discussion of the institutional, macroeconomic, and microeconomic conditions that affect theentry of new firms and the post-entry performance of newbornfirms. The reviewed literature bears some policyimplications for the support of the creation new firms, suchas the targeting of policy measures to prospectiveentrepreneurs who possess high education levels, longprevious job experience, and innovative skills.Specifically, for DCs, tailored subsidies and support shouldbe coupled with framework and infrastructural policies thatare able to improve the business environment such that newventures can start and grow.
