【 摘 要 】
Argentinean export growth was impressiveduring the recent economic boom (2003-2007). However, decomposing export growth reveals that the extensive margin(increases in exports of existing products to existingmarkets) dominates, while the intensive margin (increases inexports of new products or new markets) contributes littleto export growth. Argentina's trade productconcentration has increased in the past 10 years, and themain export products remain overwhelmingly natural-resourceintensive. The little diversification of non-primary exportslimits the country s ability to weather a decline in exportcommodity prices. The country has had some success findingnew export markets, especially in Latin America, but shouldseek to develop deeper trade relationships with high GDPexport destinations such as the European Union and theUnited States. Another challenge going forward is therelatively low sophistication of exports and limitedintegration into the global production chains, fallingbehind regional competitors such as Brazil. This calls forpolicy measures to improve the ability of existing firms toinnovate and compete successfully in global markets.
