Credit Growth and Financial Stability in the Czech Republic

【 摘 要 】

The Czech Republic had experienced acredit boom similar to those in other converging economiesin the pre-crisis years. Nevertheless, the consequences ofthis credit boom were limited as was the impact of theglobal crisis on domestic financial institutions. This paperdescribes the developments in the Czech banking sector andexplains how the tough macroeconomic environment in theCzech Republic acted as a strong tool of macroprudentialpolicy. It concludes that although it is difficult to tamecredit booms in small converging economies, a concerted setof microprudential and macroprudential measures, includingmonetary and fiscal ones, may ensure some success.
