【 摘 要 】
For a representative sample ofmanufacturing firms in 26 countries, this paper shows thatchanges in the cost of importing over time are significantlyand negatively correlated with changes in the percentage offirms' material inputs that are of foreign origin.Furthermore, the paper shows that there may be a nonlinearrelationship between import costs and imports. Thesefindings are important, as recent studies point toward asignificant positive effect of imported inputs onproductivity and growth. It is hoped that the present paperinspires more work on the determinants of the use ofimported inputs, especially in developing countries.
