【 摘 要 】
The analysis of household energyconsumption patterns is critical for evaluating publicmechanisms, such as subsidies and social tariffs that aim toprovide lower income earners with better access to energysources. This paper focuses on Mexican households to analyzethe relations between their levels of income, consumption ofdifferent forms of energy, and the role played by differenthousehold characteristics. Using microdata from the MexicanIncome Expenditure Surveys, the paper first relate incomeand energy expenditure to determine the shape of thisrelation. It then applies OLS and Tobit models to determinehow income levels affect energy consumption in relation toother covariates. The results show a positive relation forincome deciles and energy consumption and some householdcharacteristics -- pointing to differentiated mechanisms forimproving energy use.
