【 摘 要 】
The authors conduct an econometricanalysis of the economic and social factors whichcontributed to the spread of violent conflict in Nepal. Theyfind that conflict intensity is significantly higher inplaces with greater poverty and lower levels of economicdevelopment. Violence is higher in locations that favorinsurgents, such as mountains and forests. The authors findweaker evidence that caste divisions in society arecorrelated with the intensity of civil conflict, whilelinguistic diversity has little impact.
