【 摘 要 】
The authors attempt to analyze thelinkages between macroeconomic policies and economic growthvariables, their movement over time, and their impact onpoverty in the case of Poland. Poland, a middle-incomecountry, is of particular interest because its data sourcesallow for a relatively detailed analysis of suchdevelopments, and the macroeconomic environment and theeconomic growth variables show a relatively sizable degreeof variance. In addition, Poland has struggled in the pastfew years to reduce poverty while still experiencingpositive economic growth. The authors show that in Poland,poverty-reducing growth depends heavily on the ability ofthe economy to generate jobs. During the early years oftransition, net job growth was positive, while after theRussian crisis of 1998, productivity gains were accomplishedmostly through labor shedding, henceforth, increasingpoverty in Poland. In addition, the authors identify howfiscal and social protection policies affect incomedistribution and poverty in Poland.
