Who Should Implement Nutrition Interventions? The Application of Institutional Economics to Nutrition and the Significance of Various Constraints to the Implementation of Nutrition Interventions
Much has been learned about thesignificance of malnutrition for individuals and for societyas a whole in the past two decades. An adequately nourishedpopulation has a better chance of reaching full intellectualcapacity and economic productivity and enjoying an adequatequality of life. Experience shows that nutritioninterventions significantly help to reduce malnutrition butthat implementing them is difficult and influenced bymultiple constraints. An overview of the literature of thepast two decades on implementing nutrition activities andinterventions provides insights into the many factors, bothpositive and negative, believed to affect this process. Thepurpose of this paper is to analyze each factor'srelative importance in the implementation of nutritioninterventions. The findings of this study strongly suggestthat closer attention should be paid to the factors that aresignificant in predicting disbursement for nutrition inWorld Bank projects.
