【 摘 要 】
This paper investigates the role ofemployment opportunities created by foreign-owned firms as adeterminant of internal migration and destination choiceusing the Vietnam Migration Survey 2004 and the VietnamHousehold Living Standards Survey 2004. Multinomial logitand conditional logit models are estimated to study bothorigin and destination-specific characteristics of migrants. The paper finds that the migration response to foreign jobopportunities is larger for female workers than maleworkers; there appears to be intermediate selection in termsof educational attainment; and migrating individuals onaverage tend to go to destinations with higher foreignemployment opportunities, even controlling for incomedifferentials, land differentials, and distances betweensending and receiving areas.
