【 摘 要 】

The paper analyzes the relationshipbetween country size and the use of imported intermediateinputs by firms in 76 developing countries. Recent evidenceindicates that the use of imported inputs can have a large,positive effect on productivity and growth, thus motivatinga better understanding of the determinants of foreigninputs. The results confirm that, as is the case withexports, use of imported intermediate inputs is much higherat the extensive and intensive margins in small relative tolarge countries.The results for imported inputs arecomparable in magnitude with those for exports.
