Haiti is a resilient society whose ruralcommunities in particular have developed coping mechanismsin response to a long history of underdevelopment and poorgovernance. Like other fragile states, however, Haiti isbeset by widespread poverty and inequality, economic declineand unemployment, institutional weakness and corruption,violence, lawlessness, and recurrent conflict. In order forHaiti to achieve development, poverty reduction and conflictprevention, there must be a focus on correcting these issues
