【 摘 要 】
Less restrictive product market policiesare crucial in promoting convergence to higher levels of GDPper capita. This paper benchmarks product market policies inRomania to those of OECD countries by estimating OECDindicators of Product Market Regulation (PMR). The PMRindicators allow a comprehensive mapping of policiesaffecting competition in product markets. Comparison withOECD countries reveals that Romania's product marketpolicies are less restrictive of competition than mostdirect comparators from the region and not far from the OECDaverage. Nonetheless, this achievement should be interpretedin light of the fact that PMR approach measures officiallyadopted policies. It does not capture implementation andenforcement, the area where future reform efforts should bedirected if less restrictive policies are to have aneffective impact on long-term growth prospects.
