This short country report, a result oflarger Information for Development Program(infoDev)-supported survey of Information and CommunicationTechnologies (ICT) in education in Africa, provides ageneral overview of current activities and issues related toICT use in education in the country. Guinea has begun theimplementation of ICT in the tertiary education sector incollaboration with donors. Donor efforts have also recordedsignificant impact on the primary and secondary educationsectors. Specifically, United States Agency forInternational Development (USAID) has assisted Guinea underthe Global Learning and Observation to Benefit theEnvironment (GLOBE) programme and launched other initiativesjointly with some state organizations. Poor electrificationand telecommunication infrastructure, however, hinders theprocess. Connectivity is limited to certain urban areas andpower supply is at best irregular even in the administrativeregion in the capital city, Conakry, where the ministriesand principal organs of state are located. This phenomenonamong others presents challenges to the deployment of ICTsacross the country, particularly in the education sector.
