【 摘 要 】
Government inspections of firms areimportant for enforcing regulations to protect publichealth, safety, and the environment and to carry outeconomic functions such as tax collection and bankingregulation. But most inspection regimes in developingcountries impose excessive costs on firms while failingdismally to prevent accidents or mitigate losses fromdisasters. There is a strong interest in models of reformthat will reduce the burden of government inspections whileimproving standards. This paper offers solutions that do both.
