【 摘 要 】
These days it seems that almost everyonein the development community is talking about "pro-poorgrowth." What exactly is it, and how can we measure it?Is ordinary economic growth always "pro-poorgrowth" or is that some special kind of growth? And ifit is something special, what makes it happen? The authorfirst reviews alternative approaches to defining andmeasuring "pro-poor growth." He then analyzesevidence on whether growth is pro-poor, what factors make itmore pro-poor (including the role played by both initialinequality and changing inequality), and whether the factorsthat make the distribution of the gains from growth pro-poorcome at a cost to growth. The author identifies somepriorities for future research.
