During the workshop organized bytraditional healers at the XIIIth International HIV/AIDSConference in Durban, South Africa in July 2000, the issueof the legal recognition and the legal status of thisancestral form of healing was once again discussed. Thehealers underlined the important role that they play in thepreservation and rehabilitation of their fellowcitizens' health, with at least 75 percent of theAfrican population using their services.
