【 摘 要 】
Because of high mortality rates, highrates of contagion, and the possibility of cross-speciesinfection to mammals including humans, high pathogenic avianinfluenza is a major concern both to consumers and producersof poultry. The implications of the avian influenza forinternational poultry markets are large and include the lossof consumer confidence, loss of competitiveness, loss ofmarket shares, supply shortages, and disruptions of tradeflows. This paper illustrates the effect that highpathogenic avian influenza has had on the trade flows ofpoultry products. The findings suggest that outbreaks ofavian influenza have greatly restructured the internationalflow of poultry products. Consequent to high pathogenicavian influenze, Brazil has emerged as the world'slargest supplier of frozen raw chicken products, whilepoultry industries in Southeast Asia have largely refocusedtheir export markets by converting production fromunprepared to prepared poultry meat.
