This is an overview of policy briefs oncontinuous professional development of teachers, from theealiest years onward.Studies focussed on the early yearsare: Effective Teachers and Performance Standards, whichlooks at how formal qualifications of teachers, and otherinformation frequently recorded on a database of teachers,seldom predict effectiveness in raising student achievement.Accreditation of teacher education institutions andprograms; Teacher Certification;Teacher Educators andInitial Teacher Education Programs; Teacher Recruitment andDeployment (paper forthcoming).
