In the wake of the revolution, Tunisiansociety is currently undergoing a significanttransformation. In late 2011, the country's firstrepresentative government in more than three decades wasformed, as the Constituent Assembly was seated. Hundreds oflegitimate candidates ran in an election that was free,fair, and enjoyed nearly 90 percent participation byeligible voters. 'Tunisia: from revolutions toinstitutions,' published one year after the exile ofBen Ali, seeks to describe the factors driving thistransformation, examining how specific elements of societyhave changed, or not changed, in the post-revolutionaryperiod. Information and communication technologies (ICTs),which played a central role in the lead-up to the revolutionas well as the revolution itself, have continued toinfluence rapid changes in the past year. This report chartsthe application of these technologies by citizens, civilsociety, entrepreneurs, and government stakeholders. It alsoidentifies openings to capitalize on technology'sability to improve governance, expand economic opportunity,and encourage social cohesion.
