【 摘 要 】
This paper investigates possible impactsof climate change on the poor communities of the BangladeshSundarbans via changes in aquatic salinity and mangrovespecies. The implications for poor communities are assessedby computing changes in high-value mangrove species for thefive sub-districts in the Sundarbans. The results of theimpact analysis indicate highly varied patterns of gain andloss across the five sub-districts. Overall, however, theresults indicate that salinity-induced mangrove migrationwill have a strongly regressive impact on the value oftimber stocks because of the loss of the highest valuetimber of Heretiera fomes. In addition, augmented potentialfor honey production is likely to increase conflicts betweenhumans and wildlife in the region.
