This project can be considered to be aninitial process leading to the ultimate objective ofidentifying and assigning costs associated with the impactsof vehicle-generated dust so that the benefits can bequantified, if these impacts are ameliorated through actionssuch as the provision of a sealed road surface. The reportoutlines the background to the project, the results of thereview process, describes the need for a comprehensiveapproach and identifies and provides some provisionalestimates the possible impacts of traffic generated dust onroad safety, health, agriculture and the environment. Theobjectives of the project, the achievements made, theproblems encountered and the findings to date are described.The report outlines the overall approach that has beenundertaken to achieve the stated aims of the project inrelation to the available data. The outcomes fromdiscussions with prospective developing country partners arereported together with the results of correspondence anddiscussions with other professionals. Recommendations andconclusions are made on the work undertaken to date.Anoutline methodology and terms of reference are provided fora follow-up study.
