【 摘 要 】

Man-made climate change is affectingwater infrastructure in all regions of the world, affectinglarge numbers of people in their daily life and thedevelopment of their societies. As part of the World BankWater Anchor's analytical and advisory work on waterand climate change, consultants have investigated howprivate sector services to infrastructure may address thechallenges related to climate change while, at the sametime, improving development opportunities for people. Thisreport, which is one of the outcomes of the work, addressesthe role of private providers of non-financial climatechange-related services with relevance for waterinfrastructure. This report investigates to need foradditional services with regard to climate change andanalyzes the potential for the private sector in providingthese services. The analysis focuses on the water sectorslikely to be affected by climate change, that is, waterresources management, irrigation and drainage, hydropower,coastal protection, flood protection, urban water supply,and sanitation as well as water quality. In addition,opportunities for mutual engagement of public and privateagencies are analyzed and the perspectives of marketdevelopment are explored. The central aim of the report isto deepen our understanding of the opportunities forengaging private providers of climate change services inclimate change adaptation combined with socioeconomicdevelopment opportunities.
