【 摘 要 】
This paper is the first tosystematically test the robustness of shared prosperityestimates to different methodological choices using a sampleof countries from all regions in the world. The tests thatare conducted include grouped versus microdata, nominalwelfare aggregate versus adjustment for spatial pricevariation, and different treatment of income with negativeand zero values. The empirical results reveal an onlyminimal impact of the proposed tests on shared prosperityestimates. Nevertheless, there are important caveats. First, spatial adjustment can change the ranking of households, affecting the distribution of the population in the bottom40 percent. Second, the negligible impact of spatialdeflation holds only if price adjustments are carried outconsistently over time. Finally, the treatment of negativeand zero income numbers can potentially lead to substantialdifferences in shared prosperity, depending on the magnitudeof negative income and the share of households with negativeand zero numbers across years.
