【 摘 要 】
The literature suggests a wide range ofimpacts of improved transport connectivity on agriculturalgrowth. Still, the infrastructure-growth nexus remainssomewhat mysterious, particularly in the African context, because many rural farmers do not have their own transportmeans. Using data from Madagascar, the paper reexamines theimportant roles of agrobusinesses. By applying the spatialautoregressive model, it is shown that proximity toinput-oriented agrobusinesses, such as input dealers andequipment suppliers, is particularly important to increaserice production. Fertilizer and irrigation use is also foundimportant, indicating the needs for intensification in riceproduction. Market accessibility is always found as asignificant determinant: transport infrastructure connectingfarmers and markets, especially the capital city,Antananarivo, is therefore important to develop and maintain.
