【 摘 要 】
Although the ratio of female to malelabor force participation rates is higher in Sub-SaharanAfrica than in any other region, these high rates of femalelabor force participation mask underlying challenges forwomen. A large majority of employed women work in vulnerableemployment. In addition, youth unemployment rates inSub-Saharan Africa are double those of adult unemployment,and unemployment rates for women are higher than rates facedby men. This paper discusses the specific barriers thatyouth face in accessing employment in Sub-Saharan Africa,and the ways in which young women's employment isconstrained above and beyond the constraints faced by maleyouth. The paper synthesizes the emerging lessons from agrowing evidence base on interventions that aim to supportyoung women's employment, and identifies knowledge gapsand priority research questions for the future. Theobjective is to develop a gender-informed policy andresearch agenda on youth employment that can guidepractitioners, development partners, and researchers whoseek to advance young women's empowerment andemployment in the context of youth employment programmingand policy making.
