【 摘 要 】
This paper reviews both currentpractices and common challenges of measuring the causes, functioning, and consequences of violent conflict at themicro-level. The authors review existing conflict -- andviolence-related survey questionnaires, with a particularfocus on the World Bank's Living Standard MeasurementSurveys. Further, they discuss methodological challengesassociated with empirical work in conflict-affectedareas—such as operationalizing a definition of conflict, using the appropriate units of analysis, deciding on thetiming of the survey, dealing with data biases andconducting surveys in an ethically sound manner—and proposeways to improve the usefulness of existing surveys toanalyze conflict processes at the micro-level. Violentconflict, households, survey methods, questionnaire design.
