This publication provides a collectionof case studies documenting successful licensing reforms infive jurisdictions. These case studies complement previouspublications of the World Bank Group in the areas ofbusiness registration, licensing, and inspections, such asthe 2006 publication “Business Licensing Reform: A Toolkitfor Development Practitioners” and the 2009 publication“Licensing Case Studies for the Tourism Sector.” The 2006publication provided both an overview of the phases andapproaches as well as specific examples of licensing reform.This collection of case studies discusses additionalexamples of such reforms by exploring policies,institutions, and procedures as well as innovativeapproaches to licensing reform to inform developmentpractitioners and governments on practices and solutions inthis critical regulatory area.
