【 摘 要 】
Through a review of the literature, thispaper examines the links of food and agriculture withnutrition in South Asia, a region characterized by a highlevel of malnutrition. The review finds that the level andstability of food prices play a critical part in foodconsumption, with rising prices affecting poor householdsthe most. Although public food transfer programs are aimedat addressing this, most are too small to have a markedeffect in protecting or promoting nutrition. Severalsupply-side food and agricultural interventions suggestpromise in improving nutrition, although their effects haveyet to be well identified. These include the cultivation ofhome gardens, animal farming, and use of biofortificationand post-harvest fortification. All these efforts will befutile, however, without parallel efforts to mitigate theeffects of climate change.
