Water management agencies in many partsof the world are currently missing big opportunities toincrease their capacity to monitor water resources. Thisreport presents a range of remote sensing applications tosupport water resources management and decision-making, anddiscusses implementation approaches and their sustainabilitygoing forward. These were developed within the second phaseof the global initiative on remote sensing for waterresources management, conceived to help mainstreambeneficial remote sensing uses in operational projects ofthe Bank, and to facilitate the adoption in World Bankclient countries. This report is addressed to waterpractitioners in general, technical staff in national wateragencies, and project leads from development and financinginstitutions. The goal of the report is to present insightsfrom innovative remote sensing applications to help addressspecific water resources management challenges. The resultspresented include constraints identified in the adoption ofremote sensing, the approaches adopted to make applicationsfunctional in different contexts, the project applicationsthemselves, insights on their sustainability, and ways forward.
