【 摘 要 】

Minerals play a vital role in society, both in everyday life and in technologies required for agreener economic future. While circular economic approachesare developing fast, continued rising demand and thelimitations of recycling mean mining for new raw materialsis set to remain an important part of mineral production forthe foreseeable future. As an industry, mining plays animportant role in more than 80 countries worldwide and, whenmanaged well, contributes to many of the global developmentgoals. However, when managed poorly, the sector can lead tovarious negative social, environmental, and economic impactspotentially occurring across the mining life cycle. Changein the mining sector tends to be slow, with activity largelydriven by long-term commodity price cycles and projectsbeing conducted at increasingly larger scales. But whenprojects do occur, they can play a key role in the futuredevelopment of an area. This report focuses on large-scalemining (LSM), with the stated outcome being theidentification of good and bad practices and or enablingconditions related to promoting forest-smart LSM based on aseries of case studies.
