In preparing these policy notes, theWorld Bank intends to provide the incoming administrationwith some considerations and recommendations on keydevelopment policy issues. The focus of these policy notesis on the challenges that need to be overcome and the policyoptions that can be pursued to keep the Dominican Republicon a path of sustainable and inclusive growth. The sectorsand thematic areas covered in the policy notes include: (i)recent trends in poverty and shared prosperity; (ii) thequality and coverage of public spending on the socialsectors (education, health, and social protection); (iii) anassessment of the factors that can affect the quality andefficiency of infrastructure services in the sectors ofwater and sanitation, and electricity; and (iv) the factorsthat can affect the sustainability of growth from aneconomic, social, and environmental and climate resiliencepoints of view. Each policy note describes succinctly thecurrent country context, what the existing main challengesare in each sector, and what the focus of policy should beto secure sustainable and inclusive growth.
