This report focused on a numericalmodelling assessment of the possible effects of greywaterreuse on the freshwater lenses in South Tarawa, Kiribati.Conceptual models and 2D cross-sectional numerical models ofselected transects of Betio, Bairiki and Bikenibeu Islandswere developed based on available field data. Simulationsthen were used to assess greywater transport and its effectson freshwater lenses in current situation and futurescenarios. The modelling results show that adding thegreywater discharge increases notably the freshwaterthickness compared to the baseline scenario where greywaterdischarge is neglected. Eight scenarios were simulated totest the influence of rainfall dynamics and groundwaterabstraction rates on the contribution of greywater disposalon freshwater lens thickness. The report then providesrecommendations for future work to enhance the outcomes offuture modelling efforts and the feasibility of indirectgreywater reuse.
