This paper is the first joint countrystudy conducted by the United Nations and the World Bankaimed at translating into practice the principles of theUnited Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2250,through direct and local engagement with young people andtheir communities in one of the most fragile andconflict-ridden areas on the African continent. Focusing onyoung people is particularly meaningful as Somalia’spopulation is the youngest of the African continent overall.Against a backdrop of continued conflict, insecurity, andviolent extremism facing Somalia, the study offers apositive vision for defining peace as articulated by youngwomen and men. It concludes by offering an operationalframework for supporting youth in peacebuilding. Thereport’s recommendations postulate a comprehensiveunderstanding of youth, peace, and conflict going beyondsolutions based solely on increased employment.
